I lost my precious garmin nuvi 660 last month
so I had to buy another one & I ended up buying 2 :d no no I ain’t going to tell u how.
7xx was feared widely becoz of garmin’ silence over SiRF chip and rather would say only that they are using high performance chip to meet its standards. seems they wanted to sell the product name garmin rather than the chip name. watever they case, was now its SiRF, though I read a few reviews abt latest 7×5 series which is using media trak chips and said to outperform SiRF. 7xx series is a better device if you r planning to buy specially if you are a road warrior it tells you the posted speed limit on most of the roads (exceptions is only side roads, neighborhoods) dont b dishearted if it freezes on you twice a day every day, a quick connecting to the computer via the usb cable provided & updating the firmware to the latest version available takes care of every thing.
yes I used it every where under the bridges, tunnels and trees, by the tall budilin and I mean real tall building like in midtown manhattan or congested places like downtown manhattan. it works everywhere thought in terms of performance over queens boro bridge my 660 outperformed 750. oh yes x6x is a better version than x5x in terms of hardware i think.
the only reason(s) to post this is
a) garmin still using SiRF chips.
b) u might get a chipset other than SiRF if you are buyin some place other than bestbuy.
you can always check your chipset at display if u r buying as walkin.
How to Check Garmin nuvi SiRF chipset version
on the home screen click on tools
next screen tap on settings
then on system

it shows you all the versions on this screen
