gps now
187 views Published October 29th, 2007 in Uncategorized.I wrote about gps a while ago and now finally I am ready to buy one but I am a bit confuse what to chose n what not to. We are sorted down to garmin now but the question remains which one, I mean which model?
I am not that multimedia so mp3 player, FM transmitter, Handsfree bluetooth caling kind of stuff isnt simply my point of interest. I don’t want to waste time so accurassy is the most important thing.
I read a few reviews and they said some gps maps were not as accurate or there were miss spelled streets or some places/streets were not at all there. Like this officer wrote an interesting one. I wonder how he would be able to reach the scene in time?
Since zip code is very popular in USA-CA, lack of a feature like this where you can enter a zip to help the system sort down to a specific area is astonishing.
It wouldn’t say either what version of map its using currently on the system
No free updates (as some said they got and some said they couldn’t) So you are in the middle of nowhere, you end up buying a garmin unit since its price is very attractive and you find out that the system has the v7 (2004) or more likely v8 (2006) version of map installed. But contacting amazon don’t help you you actually have to buy it to see what version of the map it came with.
Situation gets even more funny when you know that they released v9 (2008) version of map in august 2007 and there is no final word that you are going to get the update for free or you have to spend another $100+ to get it.
But as I said nothing but garmin is the one to buy. I end up at 3 different models. Either this Garming nuvi 650, for around $400 or Garmin nuvi 350 for around $360 or thanks to zakaria I found this which pointed Garmin nuvi 750 for around $500 while at amazon its $600

Garmin’s update policy for maps used to be that if one bought a map (or unit with map) up to X (probably 90) days before a new version became available, one was entitled to a free upgrade. I have heard this might not be true any more.
